Nanny's World

Now here's something pretty exciting. If ever a single had you gagging for the album that follows it, this is certainly up there. The prospect of folk-metal might not sound too appealing, but somehow Rose Kemp has come up with a winner. Recently, Earth have shifted away from the drone of their earlier releases and started to explore further, adopting landscapes and culture into their music to create a kind of drone metal Americana. Rose Kemp, whilst nowhere near as heavy as Earth, has pulled of a similar trick with Nanny's World. Intitially sounding something like a bizarre Kate Bush/Pam Ayres hybrid (she's from Bristol), the song slowly builds an incessant pounding rhythm. Operatic, folk tinged and then heavy as fuck Nanny's World is a two and half minute version of Baba Yaga - innocence and tyranny and terror all piled into one thrilling story. Imagine a campfire story as told by the Blair Witch with accompaniment from Black Sabbath and you're in the right ball park. This is thrilling stuff. If she can keep this level of quality up for her forthcoming album Unholy Majesty (and that's one hell of a title) then Rose Kemp will be the name on everybody's lips come the autumn

It is finally time to announce the follow-up to last year's album 'A Handful Of Hurricanes'. Rose Kemp has been busy vigourously recording with Chris Sheldon (of Foo Fighters fame) and have created something which we are extremely proud of. You can Pre-Order Unholy Majesty here.

Daughter of British folk icons Rick Kemp and Maddy Prior (from Steeleye Span), Rose Kemp tried her hand at her parents' music, singing in and writing for her mother's trio when she was only 15 and releasing a solo album, Glance, in 2003, before she realized that her interests truly lay in harderedged electric guitaroriented rock songs. She selfissued a minialbum with help from members of the Oxfordbased band the Fourers, eventually moving to London, and then to Bristol, where Rose had developed a strong local following. With her band still back in the capital, Rose Kemp decided to work and tour as a solo artist, looping her voice to add harmonies and depth to her live shows. In early 2006 she began work on her record, A Hand Full of Hurricanes, and soon after started touring with a new band. In 2007 the album, released by One Little Indian, came out in both the U.K. and the U.S.
